Please, no...

I've just heard some dreadful news. Shocking, terrible, unpleasant news.

Yes, despite reports to the contrary, Cliff Richard has decided to continue to inflict his "music" on us all.

Ashes!

England just won the ashes. Blimey. Not much more to say, really.

Chavsfield Intifada

I really don't know why, in my last post about Hurricane Katrina, I expressed suprise that society broke down so quickly. A quick look outside my window into the street shows groups of children hurling stones at each other for apparently no obvious reason. Take away any small possibility of intervention from any kind of authority and I'm sure that stones would give way to pitched battles with whatever came to hand.

This stone throwing ritual seems to come to a head at around the end of August/beginning of September. I believe it may be some kind of celebration of the coming end of the long school holiday. When they finally return to their schools/special units in a day or so, everything will quieten down for a few weeks... after all, they need a bit of a break to get their energy back for the coming firework hurling season.

Katrina

I'm sure this is a touchy subject, and I'm not wanting to in any way demean the terrible situation of anybody affected, but frankly, it's no wonder Iraq is in the situation it is when you look at what's currently happening in the US in New Orleans. Setting aside the question of just why the area has become (reportedly) lawless so quickly - not a good reflection on "modern" society if it regresses that quickly - if the US government can't control one of their own cities perhaps they shouldn't be trying to stamp their authority on other countries...
